Portable Generators - Select the appropriate portable generator by determining what is will be used for. Find out the wattage by checking the name plate on the appliance you wan to use. Next, determine how many appliances you want to run at the same time and add or total the wattage. The size of the generator should be able to handle the necessary wattage.  If not, the voltage will drop and the motor will overheat and burn out.  Installation should meet the National Electrical Code requirements, local regulations and the requirements of the power supplier.
